Jobbik’s Volner calls for restrictions on Gypsy births at site of stabbing

“Only Jobbik can solve the problem of Gypsy crime after it has taken power,” the far-right party’s vice-president János Volner told a crowd of hundreds at a torchlight demonstration in Szigethalom on Saturday evening.

The march was a response to a stabbing in the town on New Year’s Eve, in which a Roma teenager is a suspect.

The demonstration, held a few hundred metres from the bar where the stabbing occurred was monitored by a strong police presence.

Volner called for restrictions on “the Gypsies’ multiplication” saying “if this keeps on going,” it will have serious economic consequences. His party is ready to help those who are prepared to break out of that circle, he added.

He reiterated the party’s long-standing call for formation of a gendarmerie.

The 19-year-old and 17-year-old trainee athletes who were stabbed have been released from hospital.

A 17-year-old was detained in connection with the crime and police are still searching for a second assailant or assailants.
