Former Nazi assistant to be tried in Germany

The prosecutor’s office of the German city of Weiden (in Bavaria) has started to hear the case of an 87-year old man, who is charged with assisting the Nazis during WWII.
The man, whose name is not revealed, joined the SS at his own will in 1942. The investigation claims that in 1944, he sent many people, mainly Hungarian Jews, to gas chambers in Auschwitz.
The man currently resides outside of Germany.
